
Andrew Viñales was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, to proud Afro-Puerto Rican and Dominican families. He is a practitioner in the Lukumí Afro-Cuban Orisha tradition, as well as an oral historian, cultural worker, and educator. He is passionate about highlighting the experiences of queer Afro-Latinx politics, culture, and spirituality. Currently, Andrew is a 4th-year Ph.D. student in cultural anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center in NYC. As a CUNY Graduate Center Public Fellow, Andrew is exploring anthropological possibilities in cultural work, multimedia storytelling, and public scholarship.
