Genia’s in Music: La Lupe. In this Latino USA episode I was able to co-produce this story on the Afro-Cuban Performer Lupe Victoria YolĂ Raymond, better known as La Lupe. I contributed ethnographic practices, archival research and empathetic storytelling and personal reflection to this story. I loved being able to go to the Bronx and share space with La Lupe’s Daughter, Rainbow Garcia adding a missing voice to the real story of the sensationalized singer. See web copy here
The Story not Told with Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa. I produced this episode based on in-person interview I conducted with the Afro-Puerto Rican writer. Here, I attempted to consider Afro-Latinx storytelling including spirituality and ancestor veneration, as part of the practice. See web copy here
In 2021 I served as host of the White-Angle podcast, a project from producer Kacie Willis. Here I offer words facilitating discussions between White and Black Filmmakers. Full series is available on the White-Angle website
I produced “Bomba at the Parade” for the Made in NY Podcast Certificate program in 2018. For this story, I used oral history, ethnography and on the ground reporting to talk about the Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba music and dance being used after Hurricane Maria in the parade.
For my Master’s degree in Oral History I conducted interviews with my extended religious family in the Afro-Cuban Lukumi tradition in NYC. Based on interviews I crafted short clips, in a collection titled “Santeria Stories”. This highlight mentions my narrator Hilda, and Celia Cruz singing at a drumming ceremony where she danced.
